A few weeks ago we reported that Sony might launch a variant of the Xperia S with a faster processor called the Xperia SL. Today, Sony Mobile has officially launched a landing page for the very same device, which states that the device is coming soon. Additionally, it has been revealed that the device will be available in four colors – White, Black, Pink and Grey.
As reported earlier the smartphone in question will have a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S3 chip clocked at 1.7GHz, a 4.3-inch display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, a 12.1-megapixel camera and the device will run on Android 4.0 ICS.
We have noted that the Xperia SL is using the same S3 chipset that the Xperia S uses but it has a higher clock speed of 1.7GHz. HTC employed a similar tactic with the Indian version of the One S, as the phone had the same processor with a clock speed of 1.7GHz, however its US variant had a newer generation S4 chipset based on the ARM Cortex A15 architecture. Perhaps Sony wanted the same for the Xperia SL but was unable to do so as Qualcomm continues to struggle to meet demand for the next generation SoC.
