Bosch Introduces ESP 9 Premium for Faster, Smoother Braking

Each driver has his or her own guardian angel, but there are also some wing-gifted, good deed-addicted entities that we all share and one of them is the Electronic Stability Program, which will be mandatory in most parts in the world in a few years’ time.

Bosch, the German company that first produced an ESP system, is now introducing a high-performance version of the system’s current generation (this is number 9). This is called ESP 9 Premium and relies on an upgraded return pump that can build up brake pressure extremely quick and is almost vibration-free.

Current systems use two pump elements, but ESP 9 premium integrates a total of six pistons. These build up braking pressure very fast and in an even way, regardless of how much pressure is needed. Thus, the system can apply full braking power instantly, but it can also apply the gentle level of pressure required by features like automatic dry braking or adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function.

The high-pressure build-up is overseen by two additional pressure sensors, which are placed in the hydraulic modulator and the smooth operations means that the bodywork doesn’t receive vibrations anymore, so the brake pedal doesn’t send noise and vibration to the driver.
