Abu Dhabi GP:Day and Night race

After an unpredictable first half which saw seven different winners in the first seven races starting with the season-opener Australia, right up to Canada, order was restored a bit to the current Formula One season with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and McLaren duo Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button returning as multiple race winners.
Defending champion Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel had just one race win to show, that which came in Bahrain.
“In just three years, the race has grown to be one of the highlights of the season. Starting at dusk and finishing in the dark makes it something unique and impressive. I have special memories of the circuit; in 2009 I won there and then repeated the victory in 2010 to win my first World Championship, so it’s an event I will never forget. The circuit itself is impressive: 5.5km long, with large run-off areas and a pit lane exit that goes through a tunnel to the other side of the track,” Vettel said about the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the Yas Marina Circuit.
And it seemed Red Bull’s rivals McLaren-Mercedes and Ferrari will pull away and the Milton Keynes outfit will not have it quite their way.
But they were just false hopes. The Adrian Newey inspired RB8 has gone on to become something of a bullet-proof car in the latter half of the season. Starting with the night race in Singapore, Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull have won four races on the trot. Vettel has every single lap in all four races and the latest win came at the Buddh International Circuit at the Formula One Airtel Indian Grand Prix. The run meant Vettel has overhauled Alonso in the Drivers’ standings, heading into the home stretch.
And it seems there would no let-up from Red Bull and Vettel. Vettel caressed his RB8 car, which he has nicknamed ‘Abbey’ after the win in India. And it could be much of the same as they arrived in Abu Dhabi for the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will run from Thursday till Sunday.
Red Bull have been strong at the Yas Marina Circuit since the inaugural year in 2009. Vettel won in 2009 and 2010 before a tyre puncture on the very first lap denied the pole-sitter a third win.
The Yas Marina was also the stage where Vettel sealed his first world title. And the German obviously has very special memories of the Circuit.
Vettel holds a 13-point lead over Alonso with 75 points still up for grabs in the remaining three Grands Prix.
Meanwhile, Vettel’s teammate Mark Webber is looking forward to racing at the Yas Marina Circuit again. The gritty Aussie loves the fact that the race starts in the evening and ends at night.
“I like the twilight element to the race — starting in the day and finishing at night. The facilities are world class. For the track itself, you need good traction — there are slow and twisty corners, as well as a good top speed. The race has a great atmosphere and it looks good on TV for the fans at home. It’s a phenomenal spectacle and I’m looking forward to racing there,” said Webber, who has two wins — Monaco and the British Grand Prix — this season.
